Pioneer Research in Newborn Cry Analysis

16 November 2023

Check out our recent scientific article published in the prestigious journal, Computers in Biology and Medicine, resulting from collaborative clinical trials with Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.

Here are the key highlights:

1️⃣ Multimodal analysis integrating acoustic, behavior, and neurophysiology – We’ve pioneered a groundbreaking approach by simultaneously analyzing cry, body movement, facial expressions, EEG brain activity, cerebral and body oxygenation. This multimodal method opens new doors for comprehensive research in cry interpretation never accomplished until now.

2️⃣ Machine Learning features importance – Acoustics and body language stand out as the most crucial Machine Learning features supporting our investigation into the causes of crying. This knowledge has far-reaching implications, especially for remote infant monitoring, such as the development of advanced baby monitors.

3️⃣ Artificial Intelligence for Cry Analysis – The AMSI audio Deep Learning algorithm, deployed for cry characterization, achieves an accuracy rate of 92% reliably supporting caregivers to better understand their infant’s cries.

4️⃣ Cry as a vocal biomarker assessing infant’s well-being – Our findings indicate that infant cry analysis can be a promising, non-invasive tool for enhancing the infant-parent relationship and contributing to newborn development.
